Client Brief:
The kitchen is the hub of this large, young family’s home. It’s a place where everyone gathers and, therefore, needs to service the diverse needs of this busy family. For this classic, timeless and elegant kitchen design, must-have features included a workstation area from which family members can do homework or work, as well as generous storage options and a large island with ample seating.

With a lot of small appliances that they want to be able to keep out for easy day to day use, smart design was required in order to help keep the kitchen looking visually organised.
Focal Design Statements:
A substantial island offers practicality and scale. It beautifully balances the room’s proportions. An eating area is cleverly offset, acting as a table rather than a traditional linear breakfast bar. This layout is a welcoming invitation for the family to gather while still leaving designated counter space for food preparation. The “table” faces the beautiful sash window, drawing the eye to the home’s lush courtyard. The benchtop’s miter edge honed marble in Carrara is echoed in the splashback offering timeless and elegant appeal.
Overcoming Design Challenges:
A main challenge was to create a functional kitchen around an existing large window. A large mantel shelf is positioned under the window, offering practical surface area and giving a sense of expansiveness and luxury. The dropped bench helps feature the gorgeous, large window and becomes a practical and inviting work and study area.
